A driftglobe is a small glass orb that magicaly floats on the air and emits light.
A driftglobe is a small sphere of thick glass, that weigh about one pound.
The first driftglobes date back to Netheril. The arcanist Congenio Ioun ceated the first light emitting Ioun stones sometime in The Nether Age, and driftglobes were quick to follow. They can be found in use across the modern Realms as well as in dungeons and ruins.
The most common driftglobes the three basic magical effects. They glow with bright light, equal to torch, as per the cantrip light on command. They can also glow with the brightness of full day light, as per the spell daylight for an hour at a time, though use of this ability can be drained and used up. And lastly the driftglobe floats on the air, as per the magical spell levation. A driftglobe can also follow a creature that touches it, as does the disk created by a Tenser's floating disk spell.
Driftglobes are quite easy to make, and the process is well known. A caster needs little more then a glass globe and the above mentioned spells.
